This is a dog bandana which I created by dying calico to get the yellow that I required. The logo is stitch + slash; I machine stitched the pattern and then cut into the layers of the fabric, to expose the different colours and textures.
This was my final design which I had drawn and then I photographed and improved the contrast of the colours using photoshop. I love this final image as I feel it is effective in its aim of making the audience think of caring for and looking after a rescue dog.
This was part of a project exploring narrative imagery. I chose my dog as my subject as he was a rescue and the blue and yellow colours as they are the colours are the RSCPA and Dogs Trust.
This is my favourite life drawing which I have done as I enjoyed drawing the shape and the being able to fill it in with colour. I love the effect of the quite messy paint but it works well and looks effective.
I created this by creating printing blocks and printing the shape onto different coloured pieces of paper. My New York Wallpaper is vibrant and exciting and cool!
This piece was inspired by William Morris and Tord Boontje. The different techniques I used were, Stitch + Slash, Stencil Print, Weaving, Monoprint, Heat Press and Embroidery Stitching. I used Tord Boontje style leaves and petals to add texture and delicate detail.
This is a piece I made and I have made it by using stitch + slash, cracking and embroidery stitching. The flower and leaf are both William Morris patterns. I chose the colours as they are the sort of colours that Morris used.
I love the shapes of Morris' flowers and leaves as they are all individual. These are used as repeat patterns to create some fantastic wallpaper and tiles.
I decided to use different shades of purple as I love the colour and thought it would look really effecitive. Then decided to use a bright colour for the background to make the purple patterns stand out.
A trip to Barcelona and seeing Gaudi's mosaics and The Sagrada Familia inspired my design for this bodice. The stitch + slash creates a fantastic mosaic effect.
My name is Rosy and I am 18 yrs old. I chose to do the Level 4 Foundation Art & Design Course at Southport College because I was really impressed by the wide variety of materials that were used in the pieces on display when I visited.
My specialism is textiles as I have always been interested in using colours and textures to create different effects. I really enjoyed developing my techniques and skills at A- Level.
I love researching ways that different artists and designers express themselves and then developing these ideas to create my own original images and pieces. I am keen to come to Manchester School of Art to study Textiles in Practice as your Embroidery and Textiles Galleries are full of really exciting inspirational pieces by your students. I think the broad nature of Year 1 of the course will allow me to further develop all my skills and I would look forward to working in Year 2 with an external partner to put my ideas and skills in to practice. I am hard-working with a passion for everything that you have to teach me.
